The sassanian dynasty ruled over the Persia
from 250AD to 641AD. The founder, Ardeshir Babakan, defeated the Romans with his small
state army and later turned toward Ardavan V, the Arsacid king and overthrew him. He spent
14 years annexing all kingdoms large and small to bring back the Empire of Darius the
Great. Ardeshir claimed to be a descendant of Achaemenians who ruled Persia from 589BC to
330BC.
This slide show is a collection of plaster
made building ornaments work of arts installed in Sassanian palaces during the period.
They represent a small sample example of work from once-thriving period of Iranian history
for all forms of Persian art.
