Sadeq Hedayat an
Iranian nationalist of an aristocratic background who studied and lived in
self-imposed exile in France at the turn of the 20th century. A prolific writer
and intellectual, the impact of his work did not come to light until after his
suicide in Paris under very trying financial conditions. Hedayat's writing has
continued to influence generations of intellectual Iranians who have come after
him.
