Sadeq Hedayat an Iranian nationalist of an aristocratic background who studied and lived in self-imposed exile in France at the turn of the 20th century. A prolific writer and intellectual, the impact of his work did not come to light until after his suicide in Paris under very trying financial conditions. Hedayat's writing has continued to influence generations of intellectual Iranians who have come after him.
